Keeping It in the Family

When we first asked jac’s home staging, LLC co-owner, Jenni Carrier what drew her and partner Nancy Carrier to the design field, she said it was a joint passion for interior design and the Treasure Valley. As for jac’s home staging, LLC, Nancy Carrier began her career with the company in 2001, becoming a partner in 2003. When Jenni Carrier started part time in 2006, she probably didn’t anticipate buying out the retiring founder. But the two women have been partners since 2009.

REAM: Did you have a career in another industry before embarking into staging?
Carrier: We both worked for a local paint and wallcovering company for years. Nancy was in the interior design department and I was the assistant manager of the paint department. We enjoyed helping clients with color selections, wallpaper, blinds and overall design concepts.

REAM: What one trait most differentiates between a successful home staging and an almost successful staging?
Carrier: For us, it is passion and pride. We absolutely love what we do! We are highly organized and manage an average of 60 houses staged at any given moment throughout the year. We could run the company like a machine and do more, but we want to give each home the time it deserves. We know every home has a certain style and needs certain furniture, artwork, decorations, etc. but all that takes time and planning. We won’t call a project finished until we are completely happy with the end result.

REAM: What do you enjoy most about working with real estate agents?
Carrier: We love seeing agents working hard for their clients! Selling a home can be difficult and the relationship between the seller and agent can be tricky at times. We are there to help prepare the home for sale, while maintaining the seller/agent relationship.

REAM: What would you say is your style? Do you have a signature you always add?
Carrier: We love the ever changing styles. We adapt so we are able to accommodate the needs of all our clients. We often encourage sellers to keep most design choices neutral when preparing a home for sale as to appeal to a broader market. However, during the Parade of Homes, we enjoy working with builders and other designers to highlight some of the new trends in both building and design. We love trying new things in design!

REAM: What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day job?
Carrier: I have always loved real estate and architecture. I could look at homes all day and never get tired – and we get to do that. Now, we get the chance to help people update homes or give buyers a vision of what a space could be … It really isn’t a job. We always say, “This is just part of what we do during the day … we are so lucky!!” As soon as it becomes a “job” it will be time to do something different.

REAM: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Carrier: We are a family company! As a mother and daughter-in-law team, we have been working together since 1996 at the paint store. Many people think we are crazy to go into business together, but we love it! Nancy handles more of the design side and I handle more of the business side. We are also lucky to have my father-in-law, Bruce and brother-in-law, Jeff, working with us as well; along with our two other very important employees Stacy and Dianna.
