Jason McCurdy

Bridging the Gap

REAM: What first drew you to the real estate industry?

McCurdy: I was heavily involved in residential new construction as a contractor when I was given the opportunity to be a part of a startup real estate company. There are some opportunities you just can’t pass up. J. Dee May, a well-known real estate attorney joined me and my mother in starting Red Door Realty in Twin Falls, Idaho

REAM: What advice do you have for a REALTOR considering becoming a broker?

McCurdy: Take it very seriously. It is not for everyone. My passion has always been brokerage management. It takes a certain type of individual to take on the challenges of our industry. As the qualified agents continue to separate themselves from the incompetent agents, brokers are challenged with bridging this gap. Brokers are vital to the development of their agents and there is no substitute for their experience.

REAM: What is your biggest challenge acting as the designated broker? How do you overcome those challenges?

McCurdy: Leadership. I work hard every day on being the best leader I can to my agents. Knowing their needs in this ever changing industry can be overwhelming. Fortunately, I have been blessed to have gained the experience I have. Over the past 12 years I have worked with some of the best brokers and individuals in the industry. Working with them gave me the foundation I have. These opportunities have been experience rich and give me the qualifications my agents demand. I work diligently tirelessly at my craft .

REAM: What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day job?

McCurdy: Helping agents with the challenges they face and watching them succeed. There are many challenges in the real estate industry and it takes great skill and care to navigate these challenges. There is always a solution to the problems agents face in their transactions. It gives me great pleasure helping these agents avoid mistakes and manage the success of their client’s transaction.

REAM: What is your vision for your real estate team?

McCurdy: To be the best! Our industry is in a shift and we are taking every step to adjust to it. The mediocre agent is creating opportunities for experienced agents to set themselves apart. I have surrounded myself with the top individuals in the industry and we are working hard every day to take our company to the next level. If we raise the standard others will follow.

REAM: How are you involved in the local real estate community?

McCurdy: I am a strong believer in volunteering within our industry. I have had the opportunity to serve local associations, the state association, and sit on several committees within each. I love seeing agents get involved and serve. There are so many great leaders among us and each brings a different perspective, level of experience, and personality to the industry. I am also a believer in supporting RPAC. Without it we would not have the protection over our industry that we do.

REAM: What are some of your hobbies outside of the office?

McCurdy: I am an avid outdoorsman. I have enjoyed hunting and fishing since I was a young kid. My son is now old enough and this will be the first year I get to help him and pass on the tradition. It gives me great joy to watch others succeed in the sport. It is not so much about the harvest as it is about the friendships you develop with others and the time you spend getting to know them.

REAM: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

McCurdy: The real estate industry is always going to be a part of my selfidentity. I believe it should be fun and I will be around as long as it is. Now is the time for us to come together and do everything we can to improve our skills as agents and elevate our standards. We have such a great opportunity as the industry continues to evolve. We need each other! I learned from a long time agent that we are here to manage the success of our clients. When we realize that we will be unstoppable.
